(Hey everyone, I just realized that the link to my Most Monstrous Meal story did not work in my last post … here is the correct link. all7in7.com/world-on-a-plate/)
An ๐ฎ๐นItalian๐ฎ๐น day is very structured and because of that, no one is ever really bored. This is pretty much it:
7:00 AM: The hammer hits the bell on the bell tower 7 times, signaling that it is 7:00 AM (it rings the hour of the day it is every 60 minutes — twice — including midnight), then it rings 100 times signaling that it is time to wake up, and again it rings seven more times. (I usually sleep through it)
7:30 AM: The bell rings once to indicate a half hour has gone by since 7:00 (the bell also rings for every half hour of the day). It is also time to break your fast๐ณ!
8:00 AM: The bell rings eight times for 8:00 AM. The adults leave for work. Children begin play. (It is summer after all!)
12:00 PM: The bell rings 12 times, then in case you missed it, it rings another 12 times. This time the bell swings back and forth. It’s time for lunch! All of the stores close.
3:00 PM: The bell rings 3:00 PM. Adults go back to work. Children play more. The stores open again.
7:00 PM: The bell rings 7 times, then 100 times, and 7 more times. Time for supper๐ด๐ท๐.
8:30 PM: The bell rings once. The children play until 10:00 PM while the adults talk over glasses of wine.
10:30 PM: The bell rings once. It’s time for bed๐ด.
Hi, Elliot — It was very interesting to read about Italian day, and to hear how the tower bells signal the various actions expected throughout the day! It reminds me when I was growing up in Minnesota, and the siren in the little town in which I lived sounded every day at 6 p.m. That was the signal for all of the children playing in the neighborhood to run home for dinner! Thanks for sharing your adventures!

Hi Elliott, it’s Ben. 1 question. Does the bell ever annoy you?

Hi Ben, it mostly annoys my parents but I just sleep right through it or continue doing whatever I want.

I’m pretty amazed that you are able to sleep right through that many bell peals! Amazing skill to have cultivated at such a young age!
