Hi, my name is Elliot and I am 10 years old. My family and I are going on an adventurous trip to visit all seven continents in seven months. Instead of going to my regular school every day, I will be roadschooled for fifth grade. That means I will be learning while traveling. I have to admit, one of the main things I’m looking forward to is the food my parents are always talking about when they are referring to their earlier travels before I was born. I’m also ready to encounter a large variety of sports during my travels. But most of all, I want to meet a quokka in Australia. Thanks for reading, and please follow me on my journey.
Now meet my parents!
Hi, my name is Jennie and I am Elliot’s mom. As a sociologist, I study tourism and technology, which is part of the reason we are embarking on this journey. When I was researching my previous book, Travel Connections: Tourism, Technology and Togetherness in a Mobile World, I ran across several families who had taken their kids out of school to travel the world and learn on the road. Needless to say, this piqued my curiosity as a parent and as a researcher. I convinced Martin and Elliot to join me on a roadschooling adventure of our own so that I could study this phenomenon firsthand. It didn’t take much convincing! Elliot and Martin are my favorite travel companions, so I am excited to go around the world with them … and to read what Elliot shares on this blog.
And I’m Martin, Elliot’s dad. I’m looking forward to revisiting some of the places Jennie and I traveled to years ago, as well as exploring new destinations. I’m really curious to see what it will be like crossing the Drake Passage, especially after reading Shackleton with Elliot. And like Elliot, I can’t wait to eat good food! But most of all, I am looking forward to spending time with my family while traveling the world.
Wonderful! I’m looking forward to reading more and following your adventures, Elliot! (This is Lydia–you’ve met me a few times before, but I’m not sure if you remember? Your parents and I all studied at Bowling Green together. You also named my stuffed monkey, Bananas.:) )

The Hill family cannot wait to hear about your adventure! PS. We have great fish, chips and mushy pees here in Northern England that we think you should come and try as part of your trip and observe the ‘Lesser Spotted Tommy and Jake in their habitat!’ 😉

Thank you! Actually, last night we all went out to have prime rib at Captain’s Cabin. I’m sure that I’ll have more interesting things to eat on my trip, especially in Thailand, since my parents always reflect on their time there!
